How The Private Jet Sales And Hire Industry Works
Private jet sales and hire is a small but growing industry, which is now spreading from its traditional base in the USA to Europe and the Far East. The different types and sizes of private jets are now being grouped into categories so that manufacturers can more easily assess their target market and potential sales.
At the heavy end of the market, the Business Airliners are basically converted from the more traditional commercial airliner, and these are suited to major corporations who regularly need their executives to make time-sensitive trips.
There are also different categories of mid-sized and light jets which are ideally suited to business flights with fewer people, or flights to smaller airports which may not have the capacity to handle the larger jets. These aircraft are available from several sources as private jet charters, allowing you to transport an elite group of people very quickly at short notice.
The very lightest private jets are also often used as air taxis, offering individuals the chance to fly anywhere at very short notice without the need for any prior arrangements.
Many private jets are owned by charter companies who manage them for the benefit of several corporations. The corporations simply own the right to use the aircraft when needed, provided it has not already been booked by another contributor. This type of arrangement allows the huge expense of running these planes to be spread across many contributors, lessening the wasted expense of paying for time where the aircraft are not in use. The only slight disadvantage is that more than one company may want the aircraft at any one time.
An alternative arrangement which will appeal to corporations who want to have more control over their operations is that known as fractional jet ownership. Here, corporations will own the aircraft outright but as joint owners. Obviously, such an arrangement can only work if there is considerable harmony between the corporations, and a tight contract in place so that any disputes can be easily resolved. If you find another corporation which is a good match, such as one which wants to use the aircraft at predominantly different times from you, this arrangement can work well.
One ironic feature of the private jet industry is that although it exists purely because of the need for speed, delivery of the actual vehicles themselves can take a very long time. As a very exclusive product, demand is not heavy and production is often to order. If you are looking to buy in a hurry, there is a buoyant pre-owned market which thrives partly as a result of the difficulty of obtaining new aircraft. Of course, the heavy demand ensures that prices remain high even when aircraft are not new. This is just one of the prices you have to pay due to the exclusivity of the private jet.
